We’re based in the Kyenjojo District of Western Uganda.
The Kyenjojo region is stunningly beautiful, but also marred by extreme poverty. Unemployment, maternal mortality and malnutrition are all too common in the region where thousands of children are left orphaned or abandoned. As a result of the extensive poverty, attendance in primary school is well below the national average and many children are forced to get married when they are barely teenagers.
HERE’S HOW WE WORK
We look after babies from birth and care for them until adulthood.
We support children who have been orphaned, abandoned, or whose parents simply can’t cope. As the only registered children’s home in the region, our services are in great demand.
We care for every child as if they were our own, giving them all the love and support they need along the way.
BETHEL BABIES’ HOME
In our spacious, clean and well-equipped babies home we care for up to 40 children.
The babies who come into the Bethel Babies Home are often malnourished, frail and in need of round the clock support from our team of nannies. We work really closely with local nurses and hospitals to ensure the children get the right medical attention and additional support to thrive. It goes without saying that alongside the very practical support, they get all the cuddles and love that are so important.
Our older children thrive in our family bungalows.
When our children reach the age of four, they move from the babies home into one of our cosy family bungalows. We know that a family is the best place for children to grow, learn and develop the skills that will set them up for life, so we try to recreate that in our family bungalows. Here, with the love and encouragement of a housemother, groups of up to six children thrive within the secure and loving family home.
We make the most of the local resources to support our children.
The Bethel Babies Home and the family bungalows are all located on one beautiful, spacious plot of land. We have 40 acres of fertile farming ground where we grow our own vegetables, have a number of passion fruit trees and even have cows to provide milk for the older children. This is a great way to help keep our costs down, teach children valuable life skills and even make a small profit.
