We took with us children’s clothes, crocs, blankets, toys, games, books, stationery, artist paints and brushes, and craft activities for the children.
During the latest trip to FOP UG, we were able to work alongside local staff, completing many different tasks successfully. These included painting the whole of the Spark family home and making a 150m path up to the school. As the children were off school, we spent more time with them including running a craft day for 60 children; two sports afternoons for the older FOP children (playing a number of different sports: football, badminton, tennis, table tennis and volleyball) and a full scale talent competition by seven of the family homes.
A highlight was to spend a time of fellowship and prayer with each of the mothers, as well as spending time with the babies and children in the family homes.
One volunteer was full of praise for the work of FOP, saying: “It was such a joy to be able to join the recent UK team to visit FOP and witness first hand the incredible ministry there. I was reminded of the untiring work of all the staff, but particularly the house mothers who have that practical responsibility of caring, nurturing and loving the children in their family home. I was struck by the dedication and daily personal sacrifices many of the house mums are making. It was great fun to be a part of the painting team, decorating the interior of Spark House. Witnessing the joy on house mother Sarah’s face as she saw the painting progress and finally standing in the living area looking around in amazement at the clean, freshly painted walls was so humbling. A small gift of our time and (in my case) limited decorating experience yet such a practical encouragement.”
