New Beds

Fountain of Peace is so grateful to a most generous donor who gave the necessary funds to completely replace in all the homes the old wooden beds, which quickly deteriorate, with custom made steel beds and all new bedding and mattresses.

Gritstone Trail walk

A group of supporters, who visited FOP in July 2023, are taking on the challenging 35 mile Gritstone Trail in Derbyshire over the weekend of 23rd/24th March.

Significant damage to school and farmhouse

Significant damage to school and farmhouse

On 17 September an earthquake caused significant damage to two classrooms at the FOP UG school (Rwenjaza Hillside) in the nursery section where the ceilings have collapsed. In addition to this, high winds have blown the roof off the farmhouse that is still under construction.

In July, Kate Sharma, one of the Fountain of Peace UK trustees completed her cycle ride from London to Paris over three days and raised an incredible £700 for the work of FOP. Thank you Kate!

Kate Sharma, one of the Fountain of Peace UK trustees is pushing herself outside her comfort zone to support the work of FOP by cycling from London to Paris over three days, leaving on 12th July.

Three of our Trustees visited Uganda in April 2023 to undertake an annual audit. These visits are primarily for regulatory purposes in the UK, but also so vital to strengthen relationships and personally see what is happening on the ground.

Progress is being made on the farmhouse and is now at the roofing stage which is due to be completed by the end of April 2023. Water supply has been secured for the farmhouse.

Three newborn babies, all girls, have joined our growing family, bringing the total number of babies and children in our care up to 73, to date. All stories of sadness transformed by the Lord into one of thanksgiving.

James Coker, a member of Church Langley Church in Essex, has come up with a novel idea to raise money for Fountain of Peace Children’s Foundation by endeavouring to bake 100 fresh cakes to sell in 100 days. What a target he has set himself!

Our 40 acre plot of farmland has been used to produce crops for FOP and ensure we are less dependent on fluctuating prices and availability.  Our fundraising focus for 2022 is to raise funds for a farmhouse and out-buildings on the farm site.

A two-tonne threshing machine has recently been purchased which will reduce our corn production costs.

This is a busy season for us at Fountain of Peace as we have just received twin boys to join our family. They are our 64th and 65th babies. The picture was taken shortly after arrival at Bethel Babies Home.

Back to school

Praise God that our Nursery and Primary schools have fully reopened and our children at Fountain of Peace have been able to return to school for the first time in almost two years due to Covid restrictions!

It has been a long held ambition for FOP to become more self-sufficient, and to that end a 40 acre plot of farmland was purchased a number of years ago.

With the most difficult start imaginable, this precious baby girl (right) was abandoned by a desperate mother, soon after birth. Having spent a month in hospital, she was released into the care of FOP.

The FOP village was recently paid a surprise inspection visit by the regional NGO Coordination Committee who declared Fountain of Peace to be the best alternative care giver in the district.

Installation of grid power

Our main focus these past six months has been the installation of grid power from the main road 1km away which will benefit both the FOP village and the local community, providing a source of mains electricity to the area for the first time. This project has been jointly funded by FOP UK and FOP NZ.

In August, our site was randomly inspected by the UG Ministry of Gender & Social Development to check FOP were meeting all COVID standards and current requirements. We are delighted to report they gave us an excellence score of 9 out of 10!  In addition, they also asked if they could use our training schedule prepared by our Home Manager for mothers and nannies, at a national level!

As a result of cancellation of team trips to Uganda we have been unable to take clothes, books, games, shoes etc in our cases. Recently we packaged up 575 Kg of goods and sent them by ship and road instead!

The increasing challenge of finding adequate pasture for our dairy cattle during the dry season has highlighted the need for creating our own silage.

2020 has been a different year for everyone around the world and Uganda is no exception. By God’s great grace, however, Fountain of Peace has emerged relatively unscathed with no cases of Covid reported, and in a much stronger position to be able to build on achievements for the future. We are so thankful to all our supporters for your unstinting faithfulness over this period.

Re-surfacing of the only access road to the FOP village and school is now complete. What a difference to the access road for the FOP village. What had become impassable is now a super-highway.

Since March 2020, due to government COVID-19 restrictions, our Nursery and Primary schools have remained closed.

It was with a mixture of joy and sadness that earlier this month we welcomed this critically vulnerable newborn baby, our 54th child, into our Bethel Babies Home.

We are urgently requesting funds to re-surface the only access road to the FOP village and school.  Currently, it is a significant danger to all who attempt to negotiate the road on any sort of vehicle from boda-boda (motorbike) to lorry.

Some of our older Babies' Home children are now ready to move on to a Family Home.  We are working hard to complete this, our 6th house, in spite of COVID and funding challenges.

A refrigerator and a gas cooker were purchased, chest drawers, baby cots and a sofa set ordered and nearing completion. They will all be transported at once to the home in Kyenjojo next week.
