Fountain of Peace Children’s Foundation (FOP) is very blessed to possess large areas of land, not only locally but also further afield; we want to make the most of all our resources to support our FOP family as well as the school. During the pandemic we were also able to support the local community, which we still seek to do in circumstances where a particular need is present.
In 2017 we were able to purchase 40 acres of fertile farming ground, in an outlying village, where we have increasingly been growing our own maize, beans, potatoes, and other crops. Recently we have also purchased 2 further plots of farming land nearby for extra food production, including fruit. We also have 2 silos in the FOP village, enabling us to store up 10 tons of corn or kidney beans in each silo at the same time.
Adjacent to the silos we have converted a previous cattleshed into a raised crop storage facility, where the crops can safely be dried out. The cattle are now grazed nearby. At the larger site FOP UK have funded a large farmhouse for storage of machinery and fresh crops, along with accommodation and office for a farm worker. Each family home also possess its own chicken coop to encourage poultry and egg production. The whole enterprise is overseen by an experienced Farm Manager.
Spark Worldwide, an organisation associated with a church in Texas USA, has generously provided 2 Tractors, a trailer, disc plough and harrower for FOP UG use on the farm land. FOP UK has also provided both sileage and threshing machines for use at the sileage yard.
In a part of the world where water is very precious, we are very careful to collect all rainwater in tanks adjacent to the family homes, in addition to underground tanks acting as back-ups.
